As The Better India highlighted the sustainable packaging concepts that we believe in and work towards, the day was filled with smiles, motivation, appreciation and a lot of kind words. What moved us the most was the fact that we do have a lot of eco-conscious citizens who are looking to move towards sustainable packaging options.
We have read enough about the cons of plastic usage, especially the single-use plastic but its a rare event for us to jump onto the eco-friendly options that are available. While more often than not, we usually think that what is not common is more expensive and hence we do not make a shift. Isn't it?
Undoubtedly, and without blinking our eye we can agree that plastic has been a wonder material for mankind. Since it can be created and moulded in any form, it has been used by humans for decades now. So what is the fuss you ask? Well, we have been oblivious that these plastic materials we give birth to, is eventually going to take our life from this planet. And no, we aren't making any false claims here. According to The Independent, "There are 500 times more pieces of micro-plastic in the sea than there are stars in our galaxy and by 2050 it is estimated there will be more plastic than fish."
And that would clearly mean the beginning of the end of the marine life! While we see a lot of memes, screaming about us damaging the planet by using plastic the most recent meme said - this is the plastic age!
We at Schmancy have been trying to develop a wide range of plastic-free and eco-friendly products. While we have been successful at creating these products, we still have a long way to go in terms of innovating newer products. We share the concern of plastic being disposed in the oceans and we aspire to lead the way and inform the citizens of the world about the advantages of sustainable packaging.
At Schmancy we also use cardboard products, bagasse products and other range of eco-friendly products which are meant for upcycling. While these boxes have been tested for hot and cold food, they are super sturdy and durable and what's more? They have no lamination, dye or wax even!
We understand we are a small team trying to literally have an impact on the world! But if we do not take baby steps, how will we make a big leap? How will be take a stride? How will we make a difference? Even if we have one person shifting their usage from plastic to something more eco-friendly, we will believe we have done something impactful. We are striving towards manufacturing products designed for upcycling thereby reducing the environmental impact of our business.
